Camp NaNoWriMo (Week 1)

Today marks the end of the first week of Camp NaNoWriMo and so far I am on track.  I will fall a day behind because I took today off of writing to do bloggy things and some reading.  There aren't enough hours in the day.

My plan is to do double duty tomorrow and getting at least 1200 words done.  As of right now, I am at 3251 words and my goal is to be at 20k by the 31st.  I haven't liked much of what I have written so far.  I made an outline, but I'm finding that my outline caters more to a short story than a 20k word novella.  So, I'm pushing myself away from the outline a little bit.  I've introduced my MC's grandmother, June, who turned her abusive first husband into a garden gnome that she keeps in her front yard.  His name is Gordy.  Right now, Gordy and June are my favorite characters.

One thing I am super excited about is receiving my Camp NaNoWriMo Care Package.  It came on Thursday and was filled with a ton of amazing things.  I absolutely loved getting this.
The box had quotes from Neil Gaiman & Chris Baty on it.
Melody, my swap partner, did an awesome job tailoring this package to fit me.  The package included a comic book, sidewalk chalk, a deck of cards, candies, a figure of Toothless the dragon, pens, pencils, folders, books and more.  This is everything all laid out:
You can't see the other book because of the glare, but it's The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor.  I've heard of this one, but have never gotten around to reading it.  I think I will definitely put this one on my tbr list for next month.  The other book is Grim Tuesday by Garth Nix and is the 2nd book in The Keys to the Kingdom series.  I haven't read the first one and I don't own it at the moment, but she highly recommended it.  So, it's going on my to buy list for sure.  Hopefully, I can get to that series soon.

Another thing I loved about this package were all of the little notes she left on all of the awesome goodies like these:

I mean, how can you go wrong with writing themed Star Wars references?  Needless to say, I'm looking forward to doing this again in November.
